Today I walked a short 1.8 miles from Dirksen Nature Park to the Tigard Public Library on the newly expanded Fanno Creek Trail. It was an unseasonably warm day, with highs reaching the upper 70s by early afternoon.
The new trail fills in a number of gaps in the network and is a wonderful investment in walking and cycling in the region.

I enjoyed spending such a beautiful morning outside among the early spring flowers and comforting birdsongs. While winter is definitely not over, I love these little reminders that spring is unfurling and summer will be here soon.
Sometimes walking in these urban/suburban natural areas — often set next to loud and inhospitable industrial and commercial zones — I am reminded how little our society values our relationship to the land. On the other hand, I’m grateful these places are here at all and I hope that they can hold space for the time when our inner knowing wakes up and we find the courage to restore all that has been lost. Until then, I will bear witness to the beauty of the world, wherever I find it and spend as much time as I can walking, wherever I go.
