~10 miles, rolling hills, and little shade
Day 6 feels like we are finally in a rythme and the days are beginning to blend together. We just finished approximately 60 miles in total. It was also the hottest day yet, highs in mid-70s, but somehow it felt like the 90s. I’m not sure if it’s the humidity or something else, but I struggled in the heat. There was also a lot of tough trail today. Rocks and roots and steep descents.

Starting tomorrow temperatures move into the 80s, so I’m going to have to keep finding ways to stay cool. Currently, I’m waking with a lightweight hiking umbrella, which is doing a great job of keeping the sun off my skin, although I wish I had purchased a reflective sun umbrella, as they are more effective in the heat. When I get home that will be one of my first purchases in anticipation for our next Camino.

There were few amenities today along the trail and our rest stops included a place with a local soap vending machine—and many hungry farm cats—with the most beautiful eyes—, and the side of the trail where we happily ate croissants and Spanish ham.

Tonight we stayed at a more traditional Gîte, Sentiers Fleuris, and enjoyed a communal dinner of homemade potato, leak, and lovage soup (lovage from the garden), local sausage, potatoes au gratin, and crème brûle. We were glad the dinner only lasted about an hour (they often go for 2+) so we could turn in early and prepare for our first 15 mile day tomorrow across the Aubrac Plateau.
